A simplified scheme is used to calculate the monthly mean meridional circulation (MMC) mass stream function in 1948—1999,with which the MMC climatic state(Ψ)and the anomalous climatic state(Ψ′) during the strongest El Nino events in 1980s and 1990s are analyzed.
